Was Operation Frankton worth its cost?

The raid's shipping and logistical effects made it strategically worthwhile, although eight deaths remain a severe human cost.

Notes

The volunteers understood the danger, but that knowledge did not shield commanders from the moral weight of sending young people on an exceptionally lethal mission. The raid removed scarce ships from German service, complicated coastal traffic and overseas trade, and obstructed port operations at a critical point in 1942. Germany could not rapidly replace the sunk blockade runners, while repairing the other vessels consumed dock capacity and time. On those strategic terms the operation was worthwhile, but that judgment does not make eight deaths an easy or emotionally neutral exchange.
