Steam Gun Boats against the E-boat threat

Fairmile boats and the larger, costlier Steam Gun Boats were two Royal Navy responses to the E-boat threat.

Notes

The Royal Navy pursued Fairmile boats and Steam Gun Boats in response to the E-boat threat. Steam Gun Boats were the larger, more expensive option, but the design was viable. Prefabrication was meant to support construction in far greater numbers, though that expansion never took place. The boats that entered service performed well. In this assessment, they were the Second World War type closest to the older torpedo-boat-destroyer concept.
