Defending Stargate's Midway link

Physical barriers and protected control facilities could preserve the Midway transport link while making an intrusion easier to contain.

Notes

The destruction of the McKay-Carter bridge prompts proposals for an iris or another physical barrier at Midway. Authentication, an interrupted gate chain and a vacuum transit area are alternative security measures, though the necessary signalling capability is uncertain. Restricting transit to puddle jumpers would still leave a threat from Wraith darts, which can pass through gates. At Stargate Command, protecting Walter behind a blast shield depends on warning that the link has been compromised. The exposed glass control-room wall is criticised, while another contribution points out that the show's original camera technology was more limited than today's.
