Star Wars gives droids sophisticated computing abilities while many of its weapons remain unguided. Smart missiles therefore fit the technology already established in the setting. Guns firing through fixed openings in a ship's side provoke a separate objection because they lack turret mountings. Both complaints concern whether a fictional navy makes sensible use of the technology available to it.

Why Star Wars fleets underuse smart weapons and turrets
Fleets with sophisticated droid intelligence make poor use of it when their weapons lack comparable guidance and their guns fire through fixed hull openings.
