St Vincent-class batch production builds a battle squadron

Successive Dreadnought, Bellerophon, and St Vincent batches let Britain field a coherent turbine-powered battle line quickly.

Notes

The production sequence moves from HMS Dreadnought through Bellerophon, Temeraire, and Superb to Collingwood, St Vincent, and Vanguard. Some of the listed ships will enter construction in 1908, so the sequence describes a batch program coming into view rather than only ships begun during 1907. The St Vincent class is a third batch built around a proven basic design instead of a complete reinvention. Compared with HMS Dreadnought, the ships are slightly larger and generate more power while retaining broadly similar characteristics and machinery. That continuity lets British yards keep building without waiting for every possible improvement. Larger guns can follow in later designs, but the current pattern is already reliable enough for rapid production. The program produces a seven-dreadnought battle line, supported by three battlecruisers under construction as a fast commerce-raiding wing, while competitors are only beginning their programs.
