A local legend attributes the making of St Michael's Mount to a giant who raided the mainland for livestock. A boy named Jack rowed to the island at night and dug a deep pit. He blew a horn to rouse the giant, who ran down the mount and fell into the trap. Jack buried him and became a hero.
