Sparks's later service and memoir as evidence

Frankton was one episode in Sparks's long service, while his memoir preserves experience and atmosphere that still require factual cross-checking.

Notes

Sparks went on to serve in North Africa, Italy, and Burma rather than treating survival of Frankton as the end of his wartime duty. After becoming a bus driver, he volunteered again as a police lieutenant during the Malayan Emergency and later worked as a bus inspector. His family maintained a service connection through a son in the Royal Marines and a grandchild in the RAF Regiment. His memoir is strongest on impressions, feelings, and remembered atmosphere, while dates, figures, and factual claims require cross-checking against other evidence.
