Why space fiction often neglects range and endurance

Why does more science fiction not discuss travel range rather than only weapon range?

It is important, but no firm explanation is offered for why many stories simplify or omit it.

Travel range should matter greatly in space. Its frequent absence from fiction remains unexplained, beyond the observation that stories often explain the constraint away or skip it.
