SP1 concentrated its gun armament toward the stern

The SP1 proposal had substantial firepower and a developed internal layout, but its stern-heavy armament repeated the concern over fighting forward.

Notes

At reconnaissance-cruiser scale, 150 mm guns were a reasonable choice, as were the ten 21-inch torpedo tubes in quintuple launchers found on some proposals. The SP1 layout nevertheless concentrated much of its firepower aft. Its stern combined two 150 mm gun positions with 105 mm weapons above them and twin 37 mm mounts on either side. Forward armament included a twin 150 mm mount and quadruple 20 mm weapons. The criticism accepts the heavy guns' suitability for this larger hull while questioning their distribution and the failure to turn the developed design into an operational escort.
