Soviet armored river gunboats

BKA 1124 and 1125 boats combined tank turrets, armor, machine guns, and rockets to support Soviet river crossings and operations across several theaters.

Notes

The Soviet Union built armored river gunboats around industrial strengths it already possessed, especially tank turrets and mass production. BKA 1124 and 1125 boats gave troops direct fire for river crossings while the waterways also served as logistics routes. Later craft combined T-34-family turrets with machine guns and Katyusha rockets, adding both direct and indirect fire to a very small hull. Their roughly 28-knot speed, armor, and concentrated weapons made them purpose-built combatants rather than diplomatic presence vessels. Large numbers served or entered production during the war, supporting operations in the Baltic, Black Sea, and inland river systems.
