Destroyers as a screen for the Soviet state

A deployable destroyer force offered a way to protect national approaches, but a common class had to serve very different waters.

Notes

A deployable destroyer force offered a way to protect the Soviet state's maritime approaches. Restoring inherited battleships or cruisers alone would not supply that distributed force. Destroyers could screen national territory as well as protect a task force. The difficulty was the desire for one design to serve the North Atlantic, Arctic, Baltic, Black Sea and Pacific. Those operating environments imposed different requirements on the same ships.
