Use cruisers as South China Sea surface raiders

Three heavy cruisers and a modern light cruiser would avoid the invasion force, move behind it, and attack Japanese communications.

Notes

The cruisers operating from Singapore are supposed to avoid the strongest Japanese formation. Three heavy cruisers and a modern light cruiser disperse through the South China Sea and try to reach the rear of the advance. With Japan's principal fleet attacking Pearl Harbor, local Japanese strength is expected to cluster around particular objectives. Individual British surface raiders would force the invasion command to search for them and divert warships to protect its rear. Weak Japanese convoy defence makes communications and supply shipping more useful targets than the invasion fleet itself.
