Sources for studying Victorian naval diplomacy

The opening bibliography connects the three case studies to naval biography, diplomatic history, and scholarship on Egypt and the Ottoman Empire.

Notes

The bibliography starts with Andrew Lambert's Admirals, Robert K. Massie's Dreadnought, and James Cable's work on gunboat diplomacy. It then turns to specialist articles on the 1882 Alexandria crisis, Britain and the Russo-Turkish War of 1768 to 1774, and British naval missions to the Ottoman Empire from 1908 to 1914. Together, these sources give several routes into the naval and diplomatic setting of the case studies. The observation that useful journal literature seemed to cluster before 1980 and after about 1997 is informal, rather than evidence that research stopped in between.
