British stay-behind preparations and SOE methods

British invasion preparations are connected with methods later used for resistance work in occupied Europe.

Notes

Clarke connects the early Special Operations Executive with preparations to operate behind enemy lines in an invaded Britain. Signaling and stay-behind work are central to that account. Once the invasion threat receded, the techniques could be used to train people for France and other occupied countries. In this interpretation, those methods grew to an extent from Home Guard preparations.
