After work-up at Greenock and Tobermory and duty with Western Approaches Command, Snowberry moved to Newfoundland. She escorted convoys between St. John's and Iceland, where North Atlantic wear led to a refit in February 1942. Subsequent assignments took her through the Oceanic Escort Force and Western Local Escort Force. Tanker protection then became a priority, and she served under American control on the Guantanamo-New York route. Britain and Canada supplied escorts because American convoy arrangements lacked enough vessels. Snowberry's movements followed changing demands across Allied commands.
