The Slava class as a missile-packed design compromise

The Slava class was a reasonable answer to a Soviet requirement for a large missile battery in a constrained hull.

Question

What are your thoughts on the Russian Slava-class cruisers?

Short answer

They are fairly good ships for a navy determined to fit that many missiles into a hull of that size.

Notes

The Russian Slava-class cruisers make more sense when judged against their design requirement. Packing so many missiles into a hull of that size imposed obvious compromises. Within that brief, they were fairly good ships for the mission their navy wanted. Their value therefore depends on the operator's priorities rather than appearance alone.
