Cuniberti's six-ship deterrent squadron

Cuniberti imagined six fast, heavily armed ships making battle irrational through overwhelming long-range firepower.

Notes

The proposal called for at least six battleships operating as one squadron. Their concentrated long-range fire was supposed to deter any opponent from accepting combat. Cuniberti's reasoning resembled Fisher's hope that exceptionally powerful weapons might make war less likely. History did not bear out that optimistic logic, since destructive capability does not by itself make conflict impossible.
