Why Tiger carried six-inch secondaries

The simulated German ship's four-inch substitutes suit destroyer defence, while Tiger's six-inch guns are presented as weapons for fighting larger opponents at closer ranges.

Notes

The armament difference is straightforward. The simulated German ship's four-inch substitutes are useful against destroyers, while Tiger's six-inch guns can damage larger ships at closing ranges. That heavier secondary battery supports Tiger's proposed battlecruiser-hunting role because smaller anti-torpedo-boat weapons could not deliver the same finishing fire. Tiger also had staff spaces that suited the battlecruiser-force flagship role better than Repulse, despite the preference for the newer ship.
