Singapore as a theater-entry logistics base

Singapore's role was to gather supplies at the edge of a theater and feed forward operating bases by convoy.

Notes

Tsushima renewed attention to the bases needed to sustain a distant fleet. British planning distinguished an operating base from a theater-entry base, with Singapore assigned the latter role. Supplies would gather there before convoys carried them to forward bases supporting fleet operations. A theater-entry base therefore did not have to remain the fleet's main fighting base. Its purpose was to connect incoming logistics with the network closer to the campaign.
