Shropshire's postwar duty survives in a regimental bugle

After carrying Australian personnel to victory celebrations and serving again in Japan, Shropshire left behind a tangible link between ship and county regiment.

Notes

In May 1946 Shropshire carried an Australian contingent to Britain for the British Empire victory celebrations and returned home in August. She operated in Japanese waters again from January to March 1947 before preparations for decommissioning began. The cruiser entered reserve in 1949 and was later disposed of. A silver bugle presented by the King's Shropshire Light Infantry remained with the Royal Australian Navy after the ship's decommissioning. Its later display at the Russell defence offices preserved a physical link among the British county, the regiment, and the Australian warship.
