Chapter ยท 41:17-42:53

Why showing up builds durable relationships

Material assistance matters, but people remember who arrived in person during both crises and ordinary moments of friendship.

Notes

A cheque or formal protest may help, but visible personal assistance is more likely to remain in public memory. Naval presence lets a government be seen helping after a disaster and can strengthen the informal relationships needed for later cooperation. The wedding analogy makes the point: decades later, people remember many of those who attended more readily than the gifts sent by absent guests. The same pattern applies in a crisis, when people remember who arrived and worked beside them. A ship and crew make continuing interest tangible in both difficult and ordinary moments.
