How Haida turned ASDIC contacts into ASW attacks

A tour of Haida's plotting spaces follows submarine-detection information from ASDIC operators to the controls that fired depth charges and Squid mortars.

Notes

Haida's plotting spaces make the anti-submarine information chain visible. Contacts detected by ASDIC became range, depth, course, and plotting information in rooms behind the wheelhouse. The station holding that tactical picture fired the weapons remotely while crews beside the launchers handled ammunition and loading. Peter Dixon identifies the plotting table, recorders, and later operations-room arrangement, and notes that some surviving equipment is from a different fit. Anti-submarine warfare depended on sensors, plotting, communications, and weapons working as one system.
