The planned route runs from Shin-Tosu through Shin-Osaka and Tokyo before continuing toward Hakodate. It follows an earlier journey from Sasebo and is described, loosely, as crossing the length of Japan in one day. Most of the group chooses the Shinkansen because they already hold rail passes and want the experience, while one colleague flies. The comparison shows the high-speed railway serving as the practical link between distant stops on a complicated itinerary. Taxis are still needed between the station and hotel at the northern end of the journey.
