The trip to Kobe begins with a first ride on the Shinkansen. The train meets expectations for efficiency, friendly staff, and a smooth journey. Arrival prompts the repeated Wizard of Oz line, "You're not in Kansas anymore, Dorothy," used to express how unfamiliar Japan still feels. The passage is travel context rather than a technical account of the railway. It establishes the sense of discovery behind the historical observations that follow.
