Chapter · 23:26-24:46

Shah in the Anglo-Zulu War and later Bermuda service

After carrying troops to Durban and landing a naval contingent for the Anglo-Zulu War, Shah spent later decades in reserve, accommodation, and coal-storage roles.

Notes

While returning home in 1879, Shah received news at St Helena of the British defeat at Isandlwana and diverted to carry troops to Durban. She contributed sailors and heavy naval guns to the Anglo-Zulu War, where mobile firing trains brought naval weapons ashore. Back in Britain, the ship paid off into the fourth division of steam reserve before transferring to the North America and West Indies Station. She provided accommodation at the Bermuda dockyard from 1897, became a coal-storage hulk in 1904, and was sold in 1919.
