Theoretical maximum gun range is very different from the range at which a ship can expect useful hits. At six-inch range, a large battlecruiser with good rangefinding could put a heavier volume of fire onto its target. In the simulation, Tiger still has many six-inch rounds while the German wing turrets appear nearly depleted. Tiger is then hit by a torpedo while closing. An approach intended to exploit the secondary battery could still end with a decisive underwater hit.

Closing to six-inch range means accepting torpedo risk
The simulation's ammunition state and more reliable fire at six-inch range make closing attractive, but entering that effective zone exposes Tiger to serious return fire.
