The Fairey Seafox scouts for cruisers at the River Plate

The compact Seafox served as a catapult-launched scout for British and allied cruisers, including at the Battle of the River Plate.

Notes

The final aircraft in the lecture is the Fairey Seafox, a light two-seat scout carried by cruisers including HMS Ajax, Achilles, and others. A catapult-launched floatplane extended a cruiser's visual reach for reconnaissance, spotting, and contact reporting beyond the ship's own horizon. Its role at the Battle of the River Plate demonstrates the continuing importance of shipborne aircraft before radar displaced much of their work. The Seafox closes the interwar survey before later Fairey types such as Fulmar, Albacore, Barracuda, and Firefly.
