809 conducted tactical reconnaissance during Operation Torch from HMS Victorious before re-equipping with Seafires. It covered the Salerno landings during Operation Avalanche from HMS Unicorn, joined a naval fighter wing aboard HMS Stalker, and later reunited for Operation Dragoon. Its pilots flew fighter patrols, spotting, bombing, and tactical reconnaissance from carriers and shore detachments in North Africa and Italy. In the East Indies Fleet, they trained with the RAF in Burma before covering the reoccupation of Rangoon and reconnaissance over Malaya and Sumatra during Operations Dracula and Zipper. These deployments combined carrier mobility with repeated land-based assignments before 809 disbanded in January 1946.
