The Hawker Sea Fury is used to show that a powerful fighter was not confined to air combat. Improved electronic aids let one pilot perform reconnaissance, spotting, shadowing, counter-reconnaissance, and air-defence tasks that once demanded larger crews. Spitfires had already spotted for battleship guns during and after the Normandy landings, extending the reach and accuracy of naval bombardment. Pairing a Sea Fury with HMS Vanguard therefore continued the old relationship between aviation sensors and surface firepower in a faster aircraft.

Sea Fury and Spitfire as fleet information assets
Fast single-seat fighters could still perform reconnaissance and gunfire spotting once electronic aids matured.
