Crews kept adapting the light armament

Pom-poms, a disputed four-inch gun fit, and crew-added weapons made the sisters resemble destroyers in their continuing wartime modification.

Notes

The sisters carried substantial pom-pom batteries, while the exact fit of a single four-inch gun remains uncertain for Scylla even though Charybdis carried one. Their crews also appear to have added and rearranged lighter weapons as wartime needs changed. This resembled a destroyer's pattern of local modification because large cruiser batteries and their firing arcs usually constrained improvised additions more tightly. With only four twin 4.5-inch mounts and comparatively generous deck and accommodation space, these ships offered more room for adaptation than a conventional 5.25-inch Dido.
