Drones are often proposed for strike and tanker duties but less often for airborne early warning. Rotary UAVs already demonstrate specialized radar roles, yet a fixed-wing platform intended to search at range must combine endurance with substantial power generation. Data capacity may be one concern, but radar power consumption is the main technical burden. Solving that power-and-radar problem could reshape future carrier aviation more than a simple drone substitution suggests.

Airborne early-warning drones need power as well as endurance
Carrier-borne AEW drones must generate enough power for a useful radar as well as remain airborne for long periods.
