Missile attacks threaten land airfields as well as aircraft carriers. Russian and Ukrainian airfields were still launching aircraft despite drone attacks at the time of this comparison. Their continued operation challenges the assumption that the presence of such weapons automatically prevents an opponent from using aviation. Fixed bases nevertheless have an obvious targeting disadvantage: their locations can be found on a map.
