Screens, battlecruisers, and overwhelming superiority

The force divides into screens and heavy groups, then demonstrates the campaign preference for decisive local superiority over a fair fight.

Notes

Before a fight with French light cruisers, separate screening and heavy formations are built around battlecruisers and battleships. Chester-class cruisers cover those groups while other fast formations are sent hunting. Three battlecruisers and four friendly light cruisers face only four opposing cruisers. The joke about the Royal Navy preferring overwhelming firepower captures a serious tactical principle: concentration of force reduces uncertainty and makes a local action easier to control.
