Designing a scout cruiser to fight destroyers

A ship-design exercise turns the scout cruiser into a practical destroyer-fighting problem involving guns, torpedoes, weight, arrangement, and speed.

Notes

The design starts with four six-inch and four four-inch guns, then tests whether more small guns can fit. Torpedoes add another attack option, while each weapon and funnel consumes space and weight. The mast and gun positions resist the desired symmetry, so the hull and arrangement change around the design tool's limits. Even a modest armament change can alter displacement, balance, and performance.
