Schorpioen never used her ram against another ship, but she ran aground in 1886 and was refloated. That recovery preserved a hull that later passed through support duties and became a museum ship. Her sister was struck from service in 1908 and sank as an aircraft hulk in 1925. Schorpioen's preservation was not an inevitable result of the class design. Recovery and later decisions kept her available for new roles.
