Scheer's account, published in 1920, retained mistaken identifications and loss estimates that later information could have corrected. It still listed an unidentified Queen Elizabeth-class battleship as sunk and even treated the destroyer Shark as a light cruiser, while correctly recognizing losses such as Invincible, Defence, and Black Prince. That makes the memoir unreliable as a simple factual ledger but unusually valuable as a window into Scheer's wartime picture. Read beside other commanders' accounts, the errors help reconstruct the information on which he judged Jutland.
