A Scharnhorst-derived alternative to the Bismarck class

The counterfactual keeps the Scharnhorst design lineage, enlarges the hull, adds a fourth barbette, and replaces 11-inch guns with 15-inch weapons.

Notes

Scharnhorst's 11-inch armament reflected which modern German gun was ready rather than a battlecruiser design philosophy. Her subdivision, hull volume, and speed could form the basis of a fast battleship. The proposed Bismarck therefore becomes an extended Scharnhorst with a fourth main-gun position and 15-inch weapons. Reusing the established design team and hull logic might reduce cost or accelerate construction compared with starting from a substantially different arrangement. This remains a counterfactual, but it shows how weapons availability and design continuity constrain apparently simple alternatives.
