HMS Savage in wartime operations and gunnery training

The experimental destroyer went into fleet service, from diversions off Norway to Arctic convoys and the Battle of the North Cape.

Notes

Savage took part in Operation Camera, a diversion off Norway during the Allied invasion of Sicily, alongside Furious and a force of British and American battleships. She escorted Illustrious and Unicorn in Operation Governor's sweep off Norway. Her work connected with the invasion of Italy included escorting King George V from Gibraltar to Scapa Flow. She also served extensively on Arctic convoys, where her gun mounting was valued, and fought at the North Cape. A September 1945 refit prepared her for gunnery training. Further trials followed in the 1950s.
