Food storage limits a two-month submerged voyage

Triton's two-month voyage raises a practical endurance limit: fresh food would probably give way to canned and frozen provisions despite extra stores and good refrigeration.

Notes

The voyage dates, 24 February to 25 April, meant feeding the crew for about two months underwater. Fresh food was probably exhausted within the first few weeks. Extra supplies and good refrigeration could have extended its availability into the second week, although even that remained an estimate. By early April, canned and frozen provisions were the expected basis of the diet.
