The San Carlos landing breaks an Argentine soldier's confidence

An Argentine paratrooper says the British landing convinced him the war was lost, showing how a failed expectation can collapse morale.

Notes

Private Alejandro Ramón Cano, an Argentine paratrooper, describes a sequence of assumptions: Britain would not come, and then Britain would not land. Once the San Carlos beachhead existed, he believed defeat was inevitable. The successful amphibious lodgment therefore had an effect beyond placing British troops ashore. His testimony shows morale as an operational factor: when a force's central expectation fails, it can lose the battle psychologically before the campaign is physically over.
