Salamine, the Spanish brig renamed for Salamis

Captured from Spain as Infante, Salamine carried eighteen 6-pounders and faced a British frigate with a much heavier battery.

Notes

Salamine began in Spanish service as Infante and was captured by the French in December 1793. She received the name Salamine in May 1798, commemorating the Battle of Salamis. Her armament is described as eighteen 6-pounders. That battery explains the brig's difficulty when a full-sized British frigate became her pursuer: the equal number of vessels on each side concealed very unequal fighting power.
