Steering, blackout, and quiet ASDIC work in the wheelhouse

Sackville's command spaces separated tactical decisions above from steering and concentrated acoustic work below, with blackout precautions at night.

Notes

The wheelhouse contained the steering position and operators who needed to concentrate on underwater contacts. Tactical decisions came from the flying bridge above. At night, closed hatches prevented interior lighting from advertising the ship's position. Experience with ASDIC since the 1920s informed the arrangement of a quiet working space where operators could listen while the ship was steered.
