Protecting and maintaining Sackville's radar

An elevated radar housing protected the antenna against weather and salt spray, with a surrounding walkway for inspection.

Notes

Sackville's radar occupied an elevated position ahead of the mast. Its protective housing shielded the antenna from wind, waves, and salt spray. A walkway around the housing allowed personnel to inspect equipment on which the ship's detection capability depended. The mast offered a higher possible lookout position, but the radar installation needed its own protection and maintenance access.
