Alternative roles for Russia's coastal battleships

Russia's coastal battleships could have reinforced Far Eastern ports before the war and later covered a fleet breakout.

Notes

Russia brought coastal battleships to a fleet action for which they were poorly suited. An alternative proposed here is to have sent them out before the war to reinforce the First Pacific Squadron's harbours and ports. They could also have extended protection while other ships raised speed for a breakout. That role might have required sacrificing the coastal ships so more capable vessels could escape. These are suggested uses for their limited capabilities, rather than events that took place at Tsushima.
