Could Russia land a credible intervention force in Africa with its amphibious fleet?
Short answerNot independently at large scale; the available lift was assessed around reinforced-brigade strength and concentrated in the Black Sea.
NotesAt the time of the stream, most Russian amphibious capacity was concentrated opposite Odesa in the Black Sea. The available lift is estimated at roughly a reinforced brigade: significant, but insufficient for an independent large-scale intervention in Africa. Such a formation could reinforce a friendly government or land where local support and infrastructure already existed. It would still have to leave the Black Sea to reach more distant theatres, making access through the straits an additional strategic constraint. This is a contemporary force-availability estimate from March 2022 rather than a timeless inventory.
