Why several men were the first Earl of Orford

Repeated creations of the earldom can confuse Edward Russell with Robert Walpole and Horatio Walpole.

Notes

Edward Russell became Earl of Orford in 1697, but searching for that title can lead to several different men. He died without children in 1727, and his creation became extinct. The title was created again for Robert Walpole in 1742 and Horatio Walpole in 1806. All three can therefore appear as the first Earl of Orford, so the title alone does not identify the admiral.
