At Rügen, forcing the Swedish fleet aside opens the troop route

Danish-Norwegian ships suffered heavy damage but displaced the Swedish fleet far enough to let troop transports reach Rügen.

Notes

The larger Danish-Norwegian fleet forced the Swedish ships to withdraw despite suffering heavy damage. Troop transports could then proceed toward Rügen, leaving the Swedish garrison harder to secure. The Danish-Norwegian force had twenty-one ships of the line and more frigates, which should have helped its reconnaissance and communications. Changes of command reduced its tactical fluency, so the action delivered access for the transports without destroying the opposing fleet.
