Royal Sovereign blocks a French regrouping

With Graves wounded, Royal Sovereign joined Valiant in keeping Montagne's emerging French line away from the damaged British centre.

Notes

Rear Admiral Thomas Graves was seriously wounded, leaving Royal Sovereign's captain to act on the admiral's intent. Montagne was gathering French ships on the far side of the melee after escaping Queen Charlotte. Royal Sovereign and Valiant pursued toward that line and opened a long-range action. Their fire helped keep the regrouping French ships from returning to the central fight while Queen Charlotte and other damaged British vessels remained exposed.
