Which was better in World War II, the Royal Navy or the US Navy?
Short answerNeither receives a simple victory: the Royal Navy's longer global war and the US Navy's intense campaigns produced different but comparable strengths.
NotesA clean ranking does not fit the evidence. The Royal Navy fought for longer and carried worldwide commitments from the beginning. The US Navy entered later but faced extraordinarily intense operations and can make an equally strong claim on its own terms. The comparison turns on different war lengths, geographic responsibilities, and campaign demands rather than a single league table.
