Twenty-seven Tribals were built across the British, Canadian, and Australian programmes. This discussion stays with the 16 Royal Navy ships because Canadian and Australian archives had not been examined in person. The Royal Navy vessels were HMS Afridi, Cossack, Gurkha, Maori, Mohawk, Nubian, Zulu, Sikh, Eskimo, Mashona, Somali, Tartar, Matabele, Punjabi, Ashanti, and Bedouin. Seven names were new to the Royal Navy and nine were reused. Nubian, Eskimo, Tartar, and Ashanti were the only Royal Navy Tribals to survive the Second World War, with the other twelve lost by the end of 1942. That attrition followed their use across many operations and demanding roles.
